Some follow up thoughts on the Sakha topic from yesterday. There is a village in northern Evenkiya called Essey where Sakha people live. I get the impression from Evenki people that they kind of resent the presence of this village in Evenkiya.
The Sakha assimilation process that seems to occur may only occur within the territory of the Sakha Republic. It is a worth while hypothesis to be tested. I don't know of any other Sakha settlements outside the Sakha Republic apart from Yessey.
It is worth pointing out that the Sakha Republic was an invention of the Soviet Union, that it did not exist under the Russian Empire. So the process of assimilation was certainly going on before the republic existed, but it could still be influenced in current times due to the republic's existence.
Outside of the Sakha Republic there is a people group in the north of Krasnoyarsk Krai on the Taimyr peninsula. The Dolgan people group are a metis people descended from the Sakha, Evenki and Russian. They speak a language that is related to Sakha but still has a lot of Evenki and Russian words. This further complicates the riddle, lending some credence to the idea of assimilation occurring more within the borders of the republic. But of course, the Dolgan people are also older than the 20th century borders.
