Another interesting tid bit from Melody. Baba Anya just asked her to put something on her back. Baba has been collecting a lot of berries in the forest which has meant a lot of bending over. Combined with the wetter, cooler weather today her back is aching.
Baba Anya has put together a concoction. It involves dried potato leaves soaked in vodka, wrapped in a cloth. The cloth with the vodka soaked leaves inside is laid on the skin. The cloth is then covered in plastic. A woolen shawl is then laid over the plastic. This creates heat that soothes the back!
Ahh, culture.
My tidbit is that for all my living in Russia and getting used to people sharing the jam from one bowl on the table with multiple dipping, I am way over the communal saliva sharing after two weeks with our gracious hosts.
There is salad on the table that I would like to eat, but Katya has had a runny nose, and is eating from the main salad bowl. I was really grossed out by her dripping her saliva back into the fresh water bucket, that is for drinking.
Arrgh, culture.
And we get into trouble for giving PJ cold milk. "Cold milk will give you a sore throat." No, sharing germs will do that. Boiling something will kill the germs. Culture trumps all.
