The circus is a big part of Russian culture. Most cities have their own permanent circus building. Some of the best circus performers in the world are Russians. I can't recall ever having been to the circus in my life before. So I determined that when we lived in Russia that we would go to the circus.
Today's performance was introduced by Снегурочка (Snegurochka) and Дедушка Мороз (Dedushka Moroz) (Snegurochka is the niece of Grandfather Frost, the Russian version of Santa Claus. Dedushka Moroz is Grandfather frost). New Year is when Snegurochka and Ded Moroz are biggest, and in Russia, New Year is the only the start of the festive month. The "Christmas" trees and decorations stay up for the month of January.
The highlights were some amazing aerial stunts by two clowns climbing up a very tall stick balanced by the other clown and the aerial stunts of a girl on a rope hanging from the very high roof- she swung aroung very high and wide and formed all sorts of contortionist postions hanging from the rope.
The grand finale was a trainer with his 11 tigers. These were some quite big cats. They were trained but obviously not tame. They gave the trainer some loud roars at times, and he even sent two out for misbehaving.

Have you been to the circus before Dad? It's probably really expensive there. It was $12 here, which was well worth it for what we saw.
