"But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."- St. Peter. "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come." - Jesus.

Tartar food

The Tartar people are a famous ethnic group. They were one of the larger people groups in Siberia in centuries past. They were also the people that once assimilated by the Mongolian empire, became the occupiers of Kievan Rus from the 1200s to the 1400s. Kiev shook of Tartar rule in the 1300s and Moscow in the 1400s. It was at this point that Russian and Ukrainian cultures diverged.

Today the Tartar people are the third most populous people in the Russian Federation, making up about 3% of the population (about 5.5 million). Their capital is Kazan, in European Russia. There are Tartar people living in other parts of Russia and the former Russian empire. There are still some living in the Siberian city of Tomsk, that have been living there since antiquity. In Kyrgyzstan, the Tartar people make up about 2%.

Our friend Rustam is Tartar and from Kyrgyzstan. It was his birthday today. His wife Lena cooked up a Tartar meal for his birthday. The main course was a soup called "Five Fingers." The broth has parsley and herbs in it. The idea is to then add meat and pastry to the soup as desired.

Happy Birthday Rustam.
