Russia keeps changing. There is no way that a mini golf course of this quality could have existed here 10 years ago. I'm not sure how old this course is, but it was a real pleasure to play on something of equal quality to many of the nice courses in Australia.
Over time, discovering these little things makes a place that much more liveable. We even met some expats who live here teaching English. I don't want to give the wrong impression, it is exceptional that such a place exists, and I think it is the only one of this quality in the city.
Last Thursday Tim and I were told about a mini golf tournament to be played today. It's funny, but Russians can get quite serious about a game of mini golf that we consider to be something just for the kids and the family. But, they want to promote the game of golf, and this is how it's done I guess.
Today was a cold Autumn day, 12 degrees and rain. Thankfully the rain did clear up for most of the play, and then the sun even came out towards the end.
There were 24 people who participated in the tournament. We played 54 holes (that is 6 times around the 9 hole course). Tim finished third with a score of 150 for 54 holes. The winner scored 136. I came in fifth with 159.
It turns out that it costs $12 an hour to play here. But that is not for an individual but for the whole group. So the whole family will have to come back. Too bad we only discovered this at the end of Summer.
