Just another building?

Soviet architecture can be a real killer sometimes. Concrete towers with people squashed in. I have been saying that the grey sticks need some beautification for a while now. The overall feel of a Russian city is quite drab, grey and dirty sometimes. This is starkly contrasted by the ground floor shops in the same buildings that are colourful and bright with new facades. I have said and thought, "if only somebody would do up the whole building this city could look quite nice."
Imagine our joy and surprise on our last trip down to Akademgorodok when we saw a number of freshly painted buildings and more underway. It made the place feel warm and inviting. So the picture above is not just another building but my hope of what a Russian city can look like. I have heard that East Germany have done a good job of giving their old Soviet country a face lift.
In the words of O'Reilly the builder on Fawlty Towers- "Lick of paint here, Lick of paint there, Lick of paint, Lick of Paint" (you need an Irish accent to make this funny. :)
