There is no bigger work than that of salvation. There is no bigger testimony and proof of this than the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. But, I am convinced though that there is no bigger miracle than the incarnation of Jesus. There is no greater testament of love than that God became a tiny baby born among the cow dung, humbling himself to the lowest position. There is nobody who understands us more than Jesus does. At a time when many people feel alone because they have no family or not a family that loves them, there is a chance to know that Jesus became on of us, to experience all that we do, so that no one need be alone.
A central theme in the Christmas story is that of obedience. Jesus' incarnation was a step of obedience to the Father. Mary also took a step of obedience when called on by the Lord. Mary was reminded by the angel Gabriel that "nothing is impossible with God." Mary's response was then "I am the Lord's servant, may it be to me as you have said." As we reflect on the miracle of the incarnation this Christmas, may all of us once again offer ourselves up in humble obedience to the Lord.
Lord, may it be to me as you have said.
