"But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."- St. Peter. "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come." - Jesus.

Smyrna (Izmir)

One of the seven churches of Asia was Smyrna. In modern Turkish times it is called Izmir. Izmir is a city of 3.5 million, the third largest in Turkey (Istanbul is 15 million). There are around 6 public churches in Izmir and possibly more house churches. Today we went to an International church that are meeting in the Anglican building, next door to the British Consulate. The church has about 50 Turks and about 60 expats. The service was in Turkish and English. It was a joy to again see how international the body of Christ is, and that there is indeed a light burning in the city of Smyrna.

I'll just add a couple of things, from one who was there too: The church was packed, and quite enthusiastic. They had added plastic chairs in the back which were almost all full by the time the service was over. There was a visiting preacher from the UK and his highly animated style seemed to be going over quite well.
