Christmas in Novo


Well, our first Christmas in Novo has been really special. On Christmas eve we had friends over for "carols and lessons" a distinctly Anglican tradition, a pure delight. It really made it feel like Christmas to have this. We had been along to our regular gathering during the day, but of course that was all in Russian, and as much as we enjoyed that, singing carols in English at home was very important for us.

The next day it was a great joy to see our little girl begin to discover how special Christmas can be. Melody had already made here a book to explain Christmas to her, that we printed up on our computer. On Christmas morning she opened numerous books from Canada, clothes and a height chart from Australia and Duplo from Russia. As a big lego fan, it has been heaps of fun to see her just take to the Duplo.

In the afternoon we headed back to Akademgorodok to celebrate with our friends also expat workers. We had a big Turkey meal, which also helped it feel like Christmas.

Tomorrow Dan arrives from Canada. Having family with us at Christmas time is icing in the cake for us. It may have been difficult otherwise, his trip is a big gift to us.
