We made our way through to Port Renfrew, where we stayed a couple days on our honeymoon. As we tried to find accommodation it was so expensive. The cheapest thing we could find was $125, with many places much more expensive. In the end we found the same hotel that we stayed at ten years ago, and negotiated $100.
The man who own that hotel now, has built a new pub on the location of the old pub we went to 10 years ago. He built it as an exact replica, with a very warm feeling inside. There is a family restaurant at the other end of the building. We had a great meal there overlooking the sea and mountains. A really special spot.
The next morning we went for a walk to "Botany Bay" and Botanic Beach. It was a 3km or so walk. It's kind of funny that Captain Cook also sailed around here with someone by the name of George Vancouver. Ol' Captain Cook wasn't that creative with his names (Botany Bay in Sydney).
Vancouver Island has temperate rainforest, very much like Victoria in Australia. The trees are of course a little different, but the ferns and moss everywhere give it a very similar feel.
The mix of rainforest and Great Ocean road! (No road here though).
Abigail is growing up so much.
And PJ is just so.... so cute.
If you hate slugs, avert your eyes. If you like them, you know who you are. This is called a Banana Slug. Ooh, gross.
Pj got his feet all wet.
I just love this shot of Canada geese, taken at Honeymoon Bay.
More to follow, but for now, gotta hit the road.
