My brother in law Dan and I drove down to Regina for a game of CFL football. It was a practice game. The season proper starts this following week. Both teams were testing younger players that will not all get a jersey in the team for the season.
The game was played between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Calgary Stampeders. Despite a touchdown with fifty seconds to go that gave Saskatchewan a 31-30 lead, Calgary still came back at the end for a field goal to win 33-31.
CFL is the biggest sporting competition that is solely Canadian and professional. (The NHL is bigger and has 7 Canadian teams, but is also American.) Games in Regina, Saskatchewan regularly fill up with 32,000 people. It is planned to build a new stadium in 2015 that will seat 50,000.
I enjoy all forms of football. So watching the game was fun. It was also a pleasant surprise to see Rugby 7s being played during half time. The commentator said that people like the free flowing play in Rugby. How much would they like Aussie Rules then?!
