Our local market has swelled a little today in preparation for New Year. There are all sorts of meats and fish for sale. The size of the open air market has doubled.
This meat is perfectly safe in the outdoor freezer. (It's a rather mild -4 today.)
New Year is feast time. Russians don't get put off by the sight of heads on their dead animals. These pigs have already been gutted. You would need a decent size oven and rotisserie to cook one of these runts up in the apartment. Needless to say , we are sticking with the turkey. Apparently the turkey will take 6 hours in the oven. No wonder we don't bother with that in Australia. Can you imagine having the oven going for 6 hours on a 35 degree day?
The trees finally came on sale today. I am glad we didn't wait, but it would have been nice to get a full sized tree.

Around the traps
Our local pharmacy, which thankfully we haven't had to use very often. We have bought some vitamin D for Abigail though to add to her juice or milk, due to minimal sunlight in the Winter. Apparently it is pre-added to Canadian milk for the same reason, but not here.
I'm not much of a skier, having only done it twice in my life. But this hill doesn't look too hard. I enquired today about the cost- 150 rubles ($7.50 AUD) an hour for skis, the lift is free. Melody and I will have to get a baby sitter soon and go skiing a couple times. It's the perfect hill for a novice like me.

These people seem to be not using their cars this Winter. They have been under snow for weeks now.

It may be crazy, but there are MANY people who bother with the turkey here - even on a hot day. I could name many for you. We've just bought a turkey thigh roast though - much quicker. Looks like we're going to have a pretty cool day for Christmas though, after days of non-stop (even torrential) rain
Excellent, praise God for the rain. Would you be able to take lost of photos, even some video at Christmas? You can even post some videos on your blog. They need to be relatively short or you will trouble uploading them though.
