We were really impressed with Dunya's adaptation of her own Dance of the Crane that she performed at the beauty contest in April. Here it is adapted for a group.
Various Sakha students may speak of having different beliefs, but it does appear that they adhere to paying homage to the spirits. This is a ceremony to sacrifice to the spirits.
This is a very popular Sakha sport, also performed by other northern peoples. The Sakha seem to have formalised it more than some of their Siberian neighbours.
This is an event that we had never seen before.
This is also new for our eyes. Apparenty such games also exist amongst the Inuit in Canada.
These young Sakha guys are extremely strong. The winner carried the 90kg rock over 100 metres!

Thanks for posting; this is fascinating.
The throat singing was interesting too. It mostly disappeared amongst the Inuit, but is making a comeback of late.
