January has been really hot. There have been many, many days in the 30s now. If it hasn't been hot enough check out the forecast for the next week. There are some Americans here at Equip who have been living in Vanuatu, where they have really high humidity. Apparently they haven't felt hot yet. When it gets up to 40, they are just starting to feel warm. Arrrgh!
I guess it goes to show just how acclimatised I have become to a northern Winter with snow. But, trust me, this is not normal Melbourne weather. It has not rained at all in over a month now. Regular Melbourne weather usually has a thunderstorm and a cool change down to 18 or 19 degrees, before gradually building up again over the next few days. We're just not getting the cool changes at all.
Every day after class Melody, Abigail and I have gone off to the Diamond Creek outdoor pool to cool off. It has really helped. Without that, we would be dying and finding it impossible to concentrate on our studies.
I would say bring on Winter, but comparatively we won't even get one here. Still I hope the "Winter" months bring some rain.

Temperature is all relative - like your Vanuatu/US friends know. Here, if it reaches to above ten, it feels mild, fifteen is war, and over twenty hot and we get the same newspaper reports of a "heatwave"! Today is frosty, but clear and so much lighter now in the mornings. The birdsong is beautiful and makes us all feel human again. Nothing like your Siberian winters though...
hmm, there's a typo for you - fifteen is warm not war, but there's poetry in there somewhere....
All the same, I will never adjust to 40 degrees.
