"But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."- St. Peter. "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come." - Jesus.

Ylivalli

We have been resting in a quiet place of Finland called Ylivalli (pronounce Oolivulli). There is little agriculture in Finland; less than 2% of the GDP. A friend here has some land, some of it he sells hay to neighbours. Some of the land is used for its peat, some for forestry.

Yesterday we had lunch in the community hall. It was a good hearty Finnish meal. I was quite surprised to see the fermented bread drink which was exactly the same as Russian Kvas. Finnish cuisine is some where in between Swedish and Russian cuisine.

The lunch in the community hall was quite reminiscent of community meals in Borden, Saskatchewan. This has the element of feeling like home for Melody (and me too) but also makes us feel as if we miss Borden too.

Lunch was about 6,50 euros, which is about $11 AUD or $9 CDN (the Canadian dollar just reached par with the US dollar, crazy!). Such a meal would probably have cost $5 in Borden. The meat loaf was top notch.

Our friend Mika is sitting with us. This is the region that he grew up in, although he now lives in the city.

Did you see the foundation stone of the church? Do you know when it was built?

Nope, sorry. Very slack of me, I know, complaining about a lack of history and then not investigating all the way. You know, I never even thought to look for one.
