We were surprised to discover how familiar and safe we felt with Russian culture when two Russians helped us put up our tent in the rain. It highlighted for us how much we have adjusted to Russian culture and how different Tuvan culture is.
The road to the lake:

Camping at the lake. The lake was very clear, and only very slightly salty (much, much less than the sea).

A second lake we went to was not as nice for swimming in, but the grass was actually very soft and nice to sit in.

Thanks so much for sharing your trip to Tuva etc. The pictures are fantastic and along with your commentary, are an excellent glimpse into a part of the world that most of us will never see and about which we know very little. Amazing scenery, but I think I'm with you on the need for trees.
