"Kere Kuo"
Kere Kuo means beautiful girl in the Sakha language. The Sakha students community Aartik held their inaugural beauty pageant for students from the Republic of Yakutia, this year. There were 9 girls participating, a couple of which we already know from among the community.
The evening is a good chance to appreciate some more Sakha culture. Although truth be told at least one of the girls is Eveny not Sakha. Sakha culture has borrowed and assimilated a lot from the northern cultures around them.
It is also fun being included with their community on some level. While we may not be a part of their community, we have become "accepted outsiders", as such they invited us by giving us free tickets.
The highlight of the night was that our friend Dunya was the winner! As her prize, Dunya will be flown for free to Singapore to participate in a two week immersion English course.
