We celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary this week. These seven years have gone quickly and we are enjoying our marriage. We always try to mark the occasion, by going away if we can or at least going for a nice romantic evening. This year at the behest of my wife we went "somewhere different". Melody found a mystery hotel through wotif.com. We left Abigail with grandma and went into the city centre. I've come to depart from that way of life, I prefer the quieter side. But we had a lovely evening. We found a Greek restaurant in Little Bourke street called "Kri Kri" and had their 11 course banquet. The restaurant was genuine with Greek waitresses and Greek music. Eleven courses was a bit much to get through, even if they were small, and I joked after 7 courses that we should have a half time break, and come back in the 3rd quarter for the "premiership quarter". Two hours at the little Greek restaurant was a nice evening.
The hotel was ultra modern which was a bit funny, but overall it was a nice place to stay. After all, different is good.
The tv that night had something different too. Just recently there was a motor rally from Kazan in Russia to Ashgabat in Turkmenistan. It was a spin out to turn the tv on and see Russian Kamaz trucks that we know so well speeding through the Turkmenistan desert along mountainous ridges. If you're interested just search for "Silkway Rally".
The trucks are super strong, and some may remember them from the series "The Long Way Round" with Ewan McGregor and his mate Charlie, who took their motor bikes around the world and would not have survived the "Road of Bones" in far north-eastern Siberia without the help of Kamaz trucks. At one point in the rally one of the Kamaz trucks went three metres into the air going over a bump. The truck came down just fine with no damage, but the navigator had to be flown out in a helicopter from back injuries.
Continuing in the vain of different, a friend of mine, Stephen, from Tasmania has been visiting this week. After church today we found a little restaurant in Box Hill, that Melody has always wanted to go to. It has original cuisine from Northern China, (in Chinese: source-of-fragrant-flavour-north-east-vegetable-house) which if specified must be different from all the other Chinese restaurants in Box Hill. Different it indeed was. We had a completely unpretentious and delicious lamb soup with unknown berries in it, that I just loved. So different is often good, but as I stipulate, not a synonym for the word.
