Sometimes it appears that Russians have nothing better to do than drink. There is some truth in this statement but of course it is a generalisation. Today after church in the Centre we walked through Central Park on the way back to the Metro. There were plenty of rides and games. We thought it would make a good place to take Abigail to a year from now. There were still plenty of men around drinking. There are bars in tents etc. I noticed that many young men were wearing military paraphenalia. It then struck me that as most young men have to do compuslory military service when they finish their education, that many of these young men are probably on the other side of their service. Their hats are most likely seen as a badge of honour and masculinity. Many, many young men were wearing their military hats together as they swilled their beer and vodka on a Sunday afternoon.

Well thanks heaps for your perspective Kolya! You have filled in the gaps for me but also shown that at least I was on the right track.
I shall continue to write my thoughts and will always appreciate your perspective dear Zyat.
