February 23rd is a public holiday in Russia. It is "Defender of the Fatherland Day." Officially it is to thank all the men who give their service in the armed forces. Unofficially it's a counter part to women's day on March 8th (also a public holiday).
Public holidays have meant less to us in the past, but as our lives follow more of a local schedule, we appreciate the day off as much as anybody does. Late February is not necessarily great outdoor weather, so we went to the museum as a family. In the spirit of not getting over excited about regular life, I didn't take too many photos (and these were just on the iPhone).

In one of the halls I noticed this painting of the parable of the Good Samaritan.
Abigail gave me a nice gift to mark the day. She baked some cookies and made a checkers board. We played checkers (the first time for her) and ate a cookie when ever we caught each other.
